CBD is one of the popular products in the markets now, and its fame keeps on increasing due to its various medicinal applications. CBD is a cannabinoid that is obtained from the hemp plant, which belongs to the plant family Cannabis sativa. CBD can also be obtained from the marijuana plant, which too belongs to the same plant family but is entirely different from the hemp-derived CBD.

What makes hemp CBD and marijuana CBD different are the different concentrations of THC in them. THC is an intoxicating compound that can induce a feeling of high on intake and the concentration of THC in hemp CBD is very less. Hemp CBD contains only about 0.3% THC and less, while marijuana products contain about 60 % THC.

The minimal percentage of THC in hemp CBD led to its legalization according to the Farm Bill 2018, and since then its sales kept on increasing. However, marijuana-derived CBD is still a Federal Controlled substance in the US. The potential use of CBD in relieving pain has been making it famous in palliative care.

CBD to Relieve Chronic Pain

The target area of CBD is the endocannabinoid system, and CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid receptors located in the immune system and brain. When the receptors receive signals from chemical stimuli, they produce a cellular response.

The generated response produces pain-relief and anti-inflammatory effects that help to manage chronic pain. An analysis of the results of studies conducted between 1975 and 2018 concluded that CBD usage was effective in handling pain caused by conditions like cancer, fibromyalgia, etc. This proves the potential of CBD as a medication that can successfully relieve chronic pain.
